May 1 2022 Observations. Continuum through Clouds.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Today is almost entirely overcast with clouds coming in from an approaching system just to the east. The sky is a milky white and it's like observing through lightly frosted glass. I observed briefly around 16:00UT and then again just after 18:00UT. Seeing seemed decent and the temperature was 74F ( 23.3C ) at 16:00UT. The scope used is the Orion70 at 25x.

I could see only three areas of interest on the continuum photosphere. The facula of AR12996 is nearing the NW limb. AR12995 is now outta sight around the limb. The fully structured spot of AR12999 is visible in the SW quadrant. A single large pore can be seen to it's SE almost touching the former's penumbra. The spot of AR13001 is easily seen in the SE quadrant. I see a small " tail " protruding from the SE side of it's umbra into it's penumbra. It does not exit the penumbral structure.

No granulation visible at all.

Happy Beltane ( May Day ) everyone. Let the high Sun of Summer begin! Let's celebrate!! :hamster: :band :D

Thanks for the report James, sounds nice and warm there! After the sunshine of Saturday morning, Sunday was just continual rain, this Bank Holiday Monday morning is overcast but dry, with little chance of seeing the sun today so I think a day of boat painting will be in order...

Warm, yes! The last several days have been pleasant. Monday for me is forecast to be mostly sunny. We'll see. Enjoy painting your boat. Sounds like work..
