Hi there,
i have a basic question: which dial setting of my quark should i use?
On the neutral dial setting only about 50% of the etalon is usable (picture). I discovered that on the -5 setting i have a more uniform illumination (picture).
My concerning part is the "good" left side with the -5 setting, is it completely off band, or can i use it like that?
i see 2 choices for this unit: use the neutral dial setting and cut off the right part, or set it to -5 and use it like that. What is better?
method: first i made the -5 setting with flatfield applied, then i switched the dial to neutral position with the same flatfield (waited of course until the led was green). both pictures deconvoluted with the same settings, no other editing done.

Re: Quark Dial Setting Question
Dennis the first image is offband, the second is much better. Use around the -5. All Quarks are different and the first thing you have to do is a series of images on one feature and image on every dial setting, it takes about 2hrs to do this test properly. Don't use a flat at this stage as you want to watch the area of on band move. Once you have established the correct dial setting you are good to go for the future. I did a write up here https://solarnutcase.livejournal.com/12257.html
Of course, it is naturally extremely annoying when you can see that your 'onband' is outside of the dial settings

Re: Quark Dial Setting Question
Yes. And it was the best of in total 4 that i could lay my hands on.
Only now that the sun is more active i did more imaging and tried different dial settings.

Re: Quark Dial Setting Question
Dennis, by -5 you mean all the way in the counter clock direction (towards the blue) right? The quark in my solar scout also works like yours, the best dial positions being the first and second most counter clock wise. Going to the opposite direction (most clock wise, towards the red) half of the solar disk becomes completely blank without fine features. Best, Daniele

Re: Quark Dial Setting Question
Yes, all the way counter clock direction. It took me some time to understand how that works with the quarks.daniele_bonfiglio wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 7:29 am Dennis, by -5 you mean all the way in the counter clock direction (towards the blue) right? Sadly with some Quarks it doesnt help at all.
