Zoom meeting Sunday 8th May 18:00 UTC

Post by Montana »

Just a reminder that we have a Zoom chat meeting on Sunday at 18:00UTC. Although, where has the meeting post gone? I'll look for it.

With thanks to Nic Spencer for arranging this, we have a special guest star lined up to come to chat with us, Sam Cornwell the developer of Solarcan.

So please come and join the discussion and enjoy the delights of 6 month solar imaging in a can :)

Thank you Alexandra and Nic for setting this up. I already ordered a Solarcan, I think it will be a fun project ! remember May 8th is Mother's Day.

Is Sunday a bad day this month as it is Mother's day in the US? can we get an idea of numbers and whether you vote for this to be delayed until Sunday 15th May or not. It would be a shame for him to come to chat with 3 of us :(

Let me know whether you would prefer 8th May or the 15th?

I won’t be available on the 15th either (special trip!) but don’t let that stop you if you can get enough people.

Thanks Bill :)

I'm unsure whether we should postpone to the 2nd Sunday in June if half the audience are busy with Mother's day. Any suggestions or should we go ahead anyway?

OK, we will carry on with this Sunday 8th May, I'm looking forward to it. Please attend as it should be really interesting. I'll try and record it but having never done this before I might not know how to post it afterwards but I am sure there are plenty here that can help.

Will it be the same zoom link details as usual so I can forward them to Sam?

I'll post a new link tomorrow from my account, not Stephen's recurring one. I'll do this tomorrow so there is less chance of getting spammers.

I don't think there will be many of our US friends though :(

Hi,

Great but I am confused now. 18:00 UTC is in Mexico local time 12:00 or 13:00 hours ? According to a World Clock Mexico is -5:00 hours ¿? but remember once it was -6:00 hours. Totally confused and getting old

I guess I will connect at 12:00 local time and see what happens

Solarcan rotation & Solartrail

Here are a couple of images to show you.
The first is the one Sam referred to where I rotated a solarcan by 60° every month for 6 months. The second is a Solartrail where I wore a pinhole camera on my hat all day (not even joking!) when I volunteered to help the artist Marissa Blossom on Instagram (@solartrails). Others have worn them on a shoe or fixed them to their dog’s harness! The opportunities are endless…
Really enjoyed the presentation by Sam & delighted to hear you did/will too. Looking forward to seeing all the results,
Nic

Wow!! these are weird!! You have really opened my eyes because up until now I have always done this in a very boring and regular way. I've done it twice and both times left it in the same place for 6 months

Ha ha I’ll take weird as a compliment!
Your two are lovely with enviable reflections 👏 and having done them in similar positions, you’ve given us the perfect opportunity to compare them and ‘read’ the weather conditions captured.
My first ever missed the midsummer peak because I didn’t do the 30ish degree tilt. It picked up random light reflections from the changing position of the car on the path which was great. My second got the whole solargraph but didn’t pick up the carefully chosen setting being obscured by a surprise maize crop!
I’ve got two Solarcan Colours in progress one aimed at a leafy tree and the other, of particular excitement (!) over a fishing lake to try to catch reflections!

Excellent images Nic and Alexandra. I’m going to set mine up this June, but probably just fixed to a drain pipe and see how it goes. I might get more creative next time. :)
