Solar prominence timelapse.. 12 May 2022

Post by proky »

This morning there was a very nice protuberance above the eastern horizon. Here is an animation of 53 frames that shows 25min of this awesome phenomenon.
I have created 2 versions, one with a negative surface and one with a standard surface. The frames are rotated by 90°.

The animation is opened by clicking on the frame. It is a gif file with a size of 27MB.
And here is a direct link

Awesome work! :)

What was the duty cycle i.e. how long did you image and how long did you wait between sets? How many frames were stacked for each frame of the animation?

Excellent animation Pavel, it almost looks like a post flare loop seen on edge.

The animation is made up of 53 frames. The videos from which I create the frames are 30 seconds long, about 500 frames. The resulting frame is a selection of 20% of the best frames. I do not pause between videos.

Superb. Solar dynamics in action.
It’s counterintuitive to see material flowing inwards, rather than exploding outwards, but the Sun shows us otherwise. The power and reach of magnetic fields is mind blowing.
