Our star

Post by PaulB »

Hi,

Here's what I got earlier when I noticed there was a break in the clouds

SkyWatcher ST102 500mm at F5 with a 0.5x reducer on the Quark Chromosphere. Altair GP-CAM 3 290m.

Conditions are very poor. Windy and fresh.

This is an inverted view to show more detail.

Taken from Macclesfield SK11.

I don't think I'll use the reducer. As it adds distortion to the image. This one has been cropped to remove this.

I also used a diffuser for flats. This is a bag that contained bran flakes. It's ideal for flat removal.

That's a beauty, you were lucky to catch that gap :bow :hamster:
I've used a reducer several times now and never happy with the result, I'm starting to wonder why we have them and what use they are for?

I suppose those focal reducers might they might have an advantage if using an SCT (with an ERF covering the corrector)

But for what we use. They serve no purpose.

Thanks for the comments, Alexandra.

Hi Paul,

Did you use a 1.25 inch focal reducer ? I think I got reasonable results with a 0.5x focal reducer Antares 2 inch version.

Not sure what you are trying to achieve with a focal reducer in this instance.
