Thanks, Mark!

Wish you luck on tomorrows weather.

This my last chance for imaging the Sun for a few days. Heading for Sweden tomorrow to do a bike-ride around lake Vättern (a 300km bike-ride called Vätternrundan).

Best regards,
Arne

Arne,

A quick question: Why do you use a UV/IR filter since the Solar Continuum (at least the "newer" versions of it) blocks UV and IR? Any other benefits from additional filtering?

I was telling my friend about your images Arne and that even when you really zoom in there's still a lot of detail. Often details are lost with a zoom in. Is that the scope, camera, SER bit or a combination do you think?

Was also wondering of the need for a UV/IR filter in combination with continuum. My Baader continuum is marked #2458390. Anyone know if this ID# identifies the new improved filter with less UV/IR leakage. I bought it last December, but who knows how long it sat on a shelf.

Arne, really interesting images, thanks. Hope you have a great bike trip. I used to do similar things with the best a cycle trip to Iceland many years ago, highly recommended.

Thank you very much Mark, Stephen, Jochen, Alexandra, Warren, Franco, Nick, Nic, John, Jordan, Stu, Gordon, Pedro and Franco for all your kind comments and best luck wishes!

The bike-ride went well although I don’t think I have been so cold ever before. Not that the temperatures were that cold, but when we dress for a minimum temp of around 15 degrees and a couple of hours of light rain and instead get 9 degrees and heavy rain for 6-7 hours that becomes a problem. We where seriously struggling with being so cold and were proud and super happy that we managed to overcome the challenge and cross the finish-line with the whole group of 11 friends that started together. Certainly, a bike ride we will never forget.

Gordon: Iceland has a fantastic nature, and I can just image how nice it must have been to do a bike trip there!

Nic: As Mark answered in another post, I think the answer is down to critical sampling and that the images here on the forum are scaled down and when you click you the images and view them on AstroBin you see them in full resolution - as recorded. Also, the images size, especially for the CaK and Continuum which are done with the IMX183, are quite generous. Which gives the whole disc with a moderately high resolution.

Nick and Jordan: Good question about the UV/IR. When I tested this quite some years back, I definitely got better contrast (sharper images) with the UV/IR present. I do however own several different Continuum filters (including one that I got with the Baader Herschel Wedge I bought just a few weeks back). I should probably do a new test to see if it is actually required or if I’m introducing an extra filter for no purpose.

Thanks for the SPOD honor!

Best regards,
Arne
