Baader Triband SCT
Hello everybody
Given the current period of unavailability of large diameter ERFs at a reasonable price , I am considering the purchase of one of the Baader Triband SCTs, for example the 9 "1/4 model, or 11”. So far I have not found many reviews on these on the web. models of solar telescopes; therefore I invite the users of these instruments to express an opinion and if possible to provide some images in H alpha.

I would only recommend these if you have direct measurements that your seeing supports it, and, that you are happy to go along with the regular collimation that is needed at f30 focal ratios for these to perform at the level their aperture supports.

Thats true. Since i use a regular C9 for night sky im pretty familiar with good collimation methods.
About seeing.. this spring daytime seeing was good on my location, i could often bring the 150mm achromat to its limit. So there is hope.

As Mark says, you will need to know if your seeing supports the big Cats. Its 50/50 at my place and I have Airylabs seeing monitor. If the seeing is going south it is my experience that you can still use it as a high fidelity prominence telescope, but the chromosphere like active areas and filaments will be washed out. Visually it works best with a full size filter from 32mm. And a reducer after the filter. Your Beloptik will be perfect at f50 but you will need a 3x too. Baaders TZ3 was made to use with the Tribands. And you will need to have a ND or a polarization filter if you use it visually. It is extremely bright. Even in a SS 0.3 filter.
It is a lot of fun. I only have the 8” and will never have a bigger one.
Maybe you should try as a beginning to buy a cheap refractor and use your Baader 160mm at its max around the 155mm.

Mark, Denise and Ljungmann thank you for suggestions.
About seeing I will try to put my old SC 250 mm from Marcon into operation again; unlike classic SCTs, it has a stationary main mirror and focusing is done with a focuser as if it were a refractor. In the next few days I will do some shots of the sun in white light using an Astrosolar front filter, to check the seeing conditions with an optic of this type. Surely if an ERF with such low content were available, I would use this optic.
As far as collimation is concerned, I don't have much practice since I used this SC some time ago which, having the primary blocked, suffers less from this problem.
As soon as the test results are available, I will publish them.

First light tonight for collimation looks promising.
Intra/extrafocal patterns look quite nice, but im no expert to tell. Definitive not bad optical.

I did the first light under the sun today (had an hour or so until clouds finished the session). Seeing was not up to it, but the scope was fairly easy to use and everything seems to work nicely.
Next days seeing should be better. Im curious.

Look at this image, thaken 2017 August 20 at my backyard at 1.5m above the ground trough intact C11 + 295mm ARIES DERF equipped with QUARK Chromosphere @F/43 and Basler 1920-155 camera.
Coating of the front corrector in a SCT is a good idea in general. But some technical difficulties can cause lower (than possible) final performance of the whole telescope optics.
Too many layers of metals being applied at the thin corrector can (and often do) cause stress of it. Astigmatism. This will lowers it's initial optical performance. Such an astigmatism is not a simple classic astigmatism, rather an odd one. It can be larger or smaller, but it is there.
For example, if to look closely to what Dennis' SCT shows, one can see an asymmetrical astigmatism (triangle-like, but not classical triangle).
Also, buying already coated SCT you can't select it for the optical quality. It can has less than satisfied optical quality even before the coating has been applied! And the coating itself can add errors either.
So, if you are looking for the results like you can see at the attached image, it is better to get a SCT with a very good optics and then to buy a separate full size DERF of a necessary thickness which will support a coating being not stressed and keep SCT's native optical quality minimally distorted.

The Baader Triband is a compromize and you cant take off the D-ERF and use it as a regular scope. The only reason i got it was because it was available and i didnt need to import it.
If you can get a separate front DERF it would be the better (and cheaper) solution for sure.

I share your words and I would certainly prefer to buy a C9 or a C11 and mount the ERF. In this regard, I have some questions:
1) are you able to predict a restart of ERF supplies by Aries? in a post on Solarchat I read about your hope to emigrate to Germany and reactivate the production of ERFs. I wish you with all my heart to succeed in this endeavor.
2) about the SCT which model (standard, HD, .....) do you suggest to use as a starting point?
3) you believe it is important to make the following changes to the SCT which are often suggested to improve performance:
a) primary mirror block; b) inserting ventilation fans in the tube ??
Thank you for your suggestions and best wishes to be able to resume your life and work.
