June 25th Ha Session

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi all...

I wasn't able to get out of work until after the noon hour on Saturday and I expected the seeing to be terrible by the time I finished lunch, but I sent to the scope anyway. Glad that I did...even through the seeing was not great I was still able to get some nice results from the session (IMO ;) ).

The capture configurations were the same as my usual...full disk Ha through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha DS solar scope and the high resolution images were through the Orion EON 130mm OTA fitted with a pair of Lunt DSII etalons and B1800Ha blocker.

The FD images below used the ASI294MM camera, with a composite mono image with an inverted limb and a colorized image from a capture with the gamma turned up to pull in the proms:

The next set of images used the ASI290MM camera for capture and the scope was run at prime focus (f7), a bit undersampled but the short exposures helped. These images produced three mosaics that covered the northern disk, another across the south-central disk, and the last caught the filaments on the southern disk:

There proms were not as large as some recent ones, but there were still many to capture:

I decided I would try to run some captures with the 2x focal extender and hope that the seeing did not ruin the effort. I was glad to see these turn out after they were processed:

We had mostly cloud through the day today, so no fresh images to share. At least the cloud gave me time to work on more setup in the new dome, with the mount uninstalled and operational with an OTA installed to do some testing.

Questions and comments are always welcome!

Great set Brian! That one large, faint prom is really interesting and I bet would have made a nice subject for an animation!

Thanks Brian. Wonderful images! I was completely clouded out today. I barely managed a quick one spot SUNocular view yesterday. I was hoping to image today and try out the PGR camera. No luck. Tomorrow does not look any better.

These came out really well Brian, I know the feeling of work imposing constraints, sometime you just gotta image regardless of what the seeing might be like!

A great set of images, Brian. You captured all features of the sun beautifully, the prom shots show fine detail. Lovely work.

The mosaics in particular are lush. And the dynamism captured in some of those closeups - it's a bit like seeing solar dust devils scuttling around.
