These are crude and primitive work done by a 17 year old observer new to taking records. And I could not sketch worth a flip! But it was a beginning.

Pretty neat. How many notebooks have you filled with solar observations?

Re: WL observations from mid June 1982!
I actually started my foray into amateur astronomy in 1978 but did not start recording what I observed until March 1982.torsinadoc wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 10:39 pm Pretty neat. How many notebooks have you filled with solar observations?
I have 9 notebooks if I remember right. Solar is mixed up throughout them. They have all my deep sky observations and lists of observed DS objects within them plus all of my planetary and lunar observations plus eclipses, etc. I observed heavily in the 80's and into the 90s with a few gaps in the 00's picking it back up again in the 10's a bit more steadily. The 20's see me doing consistent solar observations with my goal being complete documentation of SS25. I did start a solar notebook, the 9th notebook in 2019 but ended up going digitally recording everything now using the computers and iPhone. SolarChat is a BIG part of this now.
I did do some planetary sketches, primitive ones, back then as well as solar ones. I mainly conveyed my observations through descriptions then as I do now.
And then came along solar videocam imaging and frame stacking....
I have evolved, progressed at least a little.

Wow!! fantastic James you should digitise them all, join the BAA and submit them all for archive
I was 9 years old then too

Alexandra,
It would take quite some time to digitize all my records. It's something I do plan to do though.
