June 29 2022 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

My session time is from 14:50 until 16:00 UTC. Intermittent. Almost overcast skies with thicker lower level clouds with a thinner middle level cloud deck. A bit better than yesterday but not by much. Seeing is fair/average. The temperature is 76F ( 24.4C )

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 25x ( Ha )
I can see at least nine plage areas in the Ha chromosphere today. Three in the northern hemisphere, one numbered and six in the southern hemisphere with three of these being numbered systems.

The NE quadrant shows two small low contrast plages with one of these being just north of the equator and close to the CLM. A filament is seen just NE of the easternmost of these plages. The plage of AR13042 is easily seen in the NW quadrant just above the equator. A spot lies just NE of the plage. A long thin filament lies NW of AR13042. Another filament is seen NW of the long thin filament.

The SW quadrant shows two active regions. AR13040 is the NWern most of these and is easy to see as a double plage and spot. I wonder if the easternmost plage is actually associated with it. Two small filaments lie to it's west and another darker teardrop shaped filament is to it's east. A longer but still easyish plage is seen SE of AR13040. Just across the Central Longitudinal Meridian lies the small plage of AR13044. The small plage of AR13043 lies just NE of that. Both are visible without any trouble finding. A brighter but still unnumbered plage is seen well east of AR13043. South of it lies a large ruffled disturbance in the chromosphere. An easy wavy filament is seen near the SE limb. I also notice another filament in the SW quadrant a bit further out from the limb. Clouds moved in before I could examine the prominences. GONG CT shows some small ones on the NE and SE limb.

The mottles are seen across the disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see five areas of activity on the continuum photosphere today. One numbered system in the northern hemisphere and four systems in the southern hemisphere. Two of these are numbered.

AR13042 is visible in the NW quadrant as a spot and a large pore. No trace of faculae are seen. AR13040 is seen as three spots, maybe four, and a pore. The largest spot shows both umbra and penumbra. A tiny pore almost contacts is to the SE. AR13043 is visible only as a tiny spot or large pore in the SE quadrant. Well east of it I see a tiny double spot that is associated with an unnumbered system located there. I cannot see any associated faculae though SDO HMI images do. South of these spots I can easily see a large scattered patch of faculae. These are located where Ha shows a large chromospheric disturbance.

The fine granulation is visible today across the disc.

Carpe Diem!

James

True that! The computers will be useful in backing up my visual work as well as making multitasking my research easier.

You got a nice hour in there James, solar just hasn't been possible for me this week with work and weather both not aligning.

My weather here has sucked too. I tried imaging today with poor results. Always through clouds and with me learning both MacOS and ASTRO IIDC as well. A good day is REALLY needed.

You are welcome Alexandra. Clouds have been problematic here this week to and the upcoming weeks weather looks even worse.
