Full Disc and western surface of sun June 30, 2022

Post by Andreas Spiering »

Full disc and western surface of our star june 30, 2022. Two different solar scopes in action. The full disc is captured with my Lunt LS100 and the western surface 2hrs later with our club solar telescope Lunt LS230. Both with the same camera QHY5III174M and inverted. Enjoy it...

Great images Andreas! The 230 is showing a very even field of view. Be interesting to see what could be achieved with it with some barlows and a camera with smaller pixels to capitalise on the resolution potential.

Hi Andreas,
wonderful image!
Do you mind sharing how you colorize your images? I'm both interested in the disc color and in the background.
You definitely start with a more contrasty and detailed images than the ones I take with my Lunt 35, but I just can't get there with the colors.

Thanks.

Sergey

Is this difficult - to show the correct, uninverted images?

Quite a weak explanation. OK, no is no. I will no longer look in your threads. I don't like inverted images, I do not count details, especially when they look less than pleasing. I like to see normal images.

Too bad that you approach the misunderstanding like this, but its ok. It is not difficult to create a normal image. That's why I take ImPPG. You can find this in this tutorial by simon2940 at 33:40+. https://youtu.be/-zD4EIGBess

It would be very odd to be admiring the negatives instead of the prints back in the days of film.
Now we are all sensors and digital imaging and processing. So we have a free choice.
Whether "inverted" is right or wrong is a personal opinion.
I lean towards the normal presentation as being "more natural."
Whatever that means in the context of stacking and processing a narrowband video.
Into a sharper, still, B&W image. Or animation, of course.
Let's not forget "the marmalade treatment."
Regardless of the deep red colour we actually capture. ;)

Yes, the only truly accurate " Natural " image would be a deep red positive image.

Nice images, Andreas.

Presentation is really just a matter of personal taste and artistic interpretation. Go with what pleases you and others can make up their own mind if they like it or not. I prefer ‘positive’ images, but also appreciate the different perspective that inverted images provide. As for colour…… that’s a whole other topic for discussion. :)

One can only assume that such an image {dark red] does not satisfy the average producer and processor of solar H-a images.
Yet this is exactly what we see at the eyepiece. Which may well explain the increasing popularity of imaging. :D
"Black and white" images are now a rarity in any other photographic discipline. Usually reserved for extra drama in an "arty" setting.
Meanwhile we continue our anarchistic choices of "orange marmalade." Perhaps we should formally adopt a standard RAL colour?
So as to seem more <cough> serious. Like NASA's solar and deep sky science "artwork?" ;)

Yes there is certainly use for other colorations than red and also a use for inverted images. The most natural is not always the best and then there is the artistic creativity side of solar imaging that should be considered. I certainly love all the different ways the sun is shown here!!
