Measurement of another Quark chromosphere filter - much better ...

Hello,
This morning, I tested another Quark filter with Sol'Ex spectro. This one is rather old, probably more than 6-7 years.
It is quite good, with an FWHM < 0.45 A measured in telecentric beam at f/45, so it is about 0.40 A in collimated beam.

The profile is very nice :

The FSR is 25.4 A.
The double-limb effect is very limited.
The downside is that it is very dark. Exposure times are much longer than with my double-stack system. The BF is probably rusted. I didn't try to remove the BF. I suppose this is the filter just before the telecentric ?

Hi Christian,

Image brightness could be a deteriorated blocker - I'm pretty sure they use soft-coated blockers. There is also the variability of the mica sample itself. And then again it might be a combination of these issues.

As far as the much improved FWHM performance, the variability between sample 1 and this much better sample is in line with anecdotal reports that such variation seems to be fairly common with the Quark.

Yes, they are soft coated blockers Bob, i've had 2 'rust' on me now. It's just an 'off the shelf' Andover filter that is used.

Hi Mark,
Do you remember the diameter of the blocker ? It is 25 mm ? Can you confirm this is the filter we can see on the "telescope side" of the Quark? Maybe, we'll try and change it for a new one.
