2.7.2022 First whitelight images, closeups, different filters
Hi there,
i wanted to try some whitelight imaging with the C9.25 and got great advice about it from Christian (thanks again). Seeing was mediocre, not much on the solar disk for h-alpha, so it was a good day to try sth new.
First i used a Baader 10nm OIII filter (image description). Later on i thought "why not trying that old Baader Venus U filter you got years ago, collecting dust?"
Quite interesting first results with both filters. Despite scts are not well corrected in blue, i somehow liked the results the uv filter gave.
I still have to get used to the editing of WL, but so far i am pleased of the outcome.
All images are a "stack" of best 1-2 images (still playing with that). Telescope at F/40.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks Peter, Warren and Mark.
Didnt know WL-imaging can be so much fun. I will try to image at native focallength next time, but it will be too bright for the OIII.

Re: 2.7.2022 First whitelight images, closeups, different filters
Dennis,
Nice work experimenting with different filters on the photosphere. Some of the images have almost a CaK look. Maybe you should add a wideband CaK filter like the Baader K-Line filter or Antlia CaK wedge. Though you might get a little CaK details in the lowermost Chromosphere it will be the photosphere you will mostly see and the short wavelength will foster great resolution if you have good seeing. A 430nm Gband filter is a plus too. I have one and need to use it but I rarely have seeing good enough.

the funny thing is that i used to have a Baader K-Line Filter ages ago, sold it
Now im thinking indeed of getting a very narrowband K-line filter like the Antlia.
Im interested in a K-Line filter because it still shows the granulation, so i wont go for a real CaK Filter.

Re: 2.7.2022 First whitelight images, closeups, different filters
I’ll probably get an Antlia K-line filter eventually. They show the faculae across the disc well. And they are much cheaper than the ultra narrowband Lunt CaK wedge.
