SHG (spectroheliography) software release version 3.4

Post by thesmiths »

After discussions with several users, we decided to add a few more features and also clean up the code a bit. You can find the newest release here:

Since stacking SHG images will likely be increasingly desirable, we added some geometry features that may aid in the stacking process. The most useful feature is a "Mirror flip" that compensates for the reverse scan direction. Both the FITS files and the PNG files are flipped. There is also a new slider that rotates the PNG images by 90, 180 or 270 degrees. The angle is measured counter-clockwise and the rotation is done after the mirror flip.

The "mirror flip" state by design is not saved in the SHG.ini file so it reverts back to the default (off) after each run. The PNG rotation is remembered as this likely stays fixed for an extended time.

The "mirror flip" can be accessed from the command line -- so if you have a scan program (which drives the mount and also the camera) that then triggers the reconstruction immediately after completing a scan, then you know which direction the last scan was done. Therefore, you know at that point whether a mirror flip is required. If you do the reconstruction later, you will have to manually sort through files done in each scan direction.
