Factory tour of Solarscope - Manx Precision Optics

Post by Montana »

This morning a dream came true and I visited Solarscope at 9am. The factory is near the airport but everything is so quiet and at one with nature. The first hurdle in the car park was having to drive round a baby Herring Gull stood in the car park entrance road. He was very difficult to spot and looked like a large fluffy stone. At least we drove round him ;)

We then met Helmut Kessler, he was so kind and we chatted for a while over tea in the board room

He then gave us a tour of the factory. In the Solarscope assembly room there was a finished package all labelled up and ready for Royal Mail, some lucky new owner will have their etalons this week :hamster: :hamster: :hamster: Northumberland I think? could be wrong.

We then had a full tour in reverse order of the coating room and machine, the glass polishing machines

Grinding machines and metal machining areas. Most of the work they do is to produce optics for precision lasers.

A huge thank you to Helmut and his wonderful hospitality, what a great guy :hamster: :bow2

Hi Alexandra,

It was good of him to take the time to give you a tour. Did you see anything of how he tests and certifies his etalons?

Thanks for sharing.

My Solarscope DSF100 is back from his spa and relaxation week and with a little goodie bag too. It is in perfect working order and now has a shiny new screw. He came back with a T-shirt and some face cleaners :bow2

It is wonderful to have the customer care of Solarscope :hamster: :hamster:

Wonderful report Alexandra! Very interesting to see inside the factory. And even better, your filter is back on song. We are so lucky to have Solarscope on our doorstep. Long may Helmut keep the business going.

Alexandra,
This had to be really fun and educational. I have always heard good things about Solarscope and it’s nice to see in your images their manufacturing facility. It appears that they have wonderful customer service too!

And I love the CBSAP T shirt you are wearing. You make a wonderful ambassador for all of us!
