H-alpha spectroheliograph image of AR 3057, 3053, 3056, 3055

I LOVE finding out about different ways to appreciate the Sun and light in general. Use this forum to post your info or questions about various outside the mainstream ways to appreciate our life giving star!

H-alpha spectroheliograph image of AR 3057, 3053, 3056, 3055

Post by thesmiths »

Following up on our SHG imaging of a few days ago viewtopic.php?t=37061, we made another attempt to try to get good focus across as much of the solar disk as possible.

H-alpha, 700mm focal length, 106mm aperture. Spectroheliograph image, stack of 6 frames.

In the next one, the focus was intentionally positioned over the area just north of the equator. The relevant region is sharper than in the image above.

H-alpha, 700mm, 106 aperture. Spectroheliograph image, stack of 5 frames.

The issue is that it is difficult with the current optics of our SHG to get good focus across the whole length of the slit onto which the Sun's image is projected. For more details, see our posts in the Solar Radio, Magnetometry and Spectroscopy section viewtopic.php?t=37081.

The filaments are really dark and show excellent contrast against the disc. And look at the feet on the prom in the SW quadrant. You did excellent on these!

Wow!

Call me Geoff.

I do what I do because I want to, and because I can....

Doesn't mean I know what I'm doing, though!
