July 21 2022. Another through clouds WL session.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 15:50 until 16:25 UTC. Intermittent. The skies are overcast or nearly so with various layers and thicknesses of cloud. Even at best it is like looking through a thin pane of lightly frosted glass. The temperature is 77F ( 25C ) at 16:00 UTC.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x ( WL )
I can see nine regions on the WL photosphere today. Five in the northern hemisphere all numbered, in a line and four in the southern hemisphere with three being numbered.

AR13064 in the NE quadrant is seen as nothing but a small area of spots in it's eastern portion. I cannot resolve them well. I might can see three spots. The western section is but a single spot. West or nearly so of AR13064 lies the barely visible AR13063 visible as three hazy spots. SDO hi rez shows them as three small groupings of pores. AR13060 further west in the NW quadrant shows itself as two small spots. AR13058 just to the west is a barely visible single spot. AR13057 in the far west appears as a single spot showing both an umbra and a penumbra. Despite showing on the GONG and SDO continuum images easily I cannot see the faculae surrounding the spot of AR13057.

Crossing the equator well into the SW quadrant I can make out the faculae of AR13056 at the limb. I see no spots or pores there. Well NE of the faculae of AR13056 I can see the fair sized spot of AR13059. I can see that it has an umbra and a penumbra. AR13062 is seen inward of the SE limb as a small-medium spot. I can only hint the evidence of an umbra-penumbra form in the spot. Last I see with difficulty, I had to look for it, a small double spot that lies almost midway between AR13062 and AR13059.

No granulation visible at all.

The music for today's session is The Kick Inside by Kate Bush.

Seize the Day!!

James

Nice report Jmaes, sometimes you just have to make the most of opportunities regardless of conditions. Don't think my conditions will help me today - it's raining

Keep the SUNoculars nearby. One never knows when a brief clearing will present itself.
