More Inverted SHG H-alpha "clouds on the Sun" images

Post by thesmiths »

After the big heat wave in London, the atmospheric conditions have been less than ideal. I've gone back to a few of the better images from earlier in July and found these two that looked nice inverted. Filaments come out with very high contrast with SHG due to the narrow bandwidth and strong filaments look rather "cloudy and dreamy" when inverted. Both the good weather and the magnificent filaments seem to have passed for the time being. These ones look best at full scale (right click, Open image in new tab).

SHG H-alpha from July 11. Stack of best 10 of 26 frames. 700mm focal length, 106mm aperture, 2400 l/mm grating, 9 micron wide chrome on quartz slit.

The filaments certainly stand out when inverted, it is lovely to see the caterpillar feet :bow :hamster:
