July 27 2022 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

My session time is from 15:08 until 16:00 UTC. The skies are mostly clear with seeing a bit above average. The temperature is 84F ( 28.8C )

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 25x and 33x ( Ha )
Today I can see seven active regions in the Ha chromosphere. Three in the northern hemisphere with all three of these being numbered and four in the southern hemisphere with three having numbers.

Two plages can be seen in the NE quadrant. Near the limb I can see a bright plage with two filaments SE of it. This plage is associated with AR13067. Well west of this plage a smaller plage is seen. The NW quad shows a large scattered plage disturbance. The brighter southern part of it is labeled as AR13064. Three filaments are seen NW of it near the limb and appear to be involved with the disturbance. The northernmost filament is a filaprom with a detached portion!

I can see three plages in the SW quadrant. The westernmost of these is AR13065. I can see two filaments SE of it. Well ESE of AR13065 lies AR13062 with it's plage and spot. A thin but easy filament snakes from just east of the spot well to the SE. A significant amount of plage disturbance can be seen between AR13065 and AR13062. NE of AR13062 I can see the plage of AR13066. It has a filament to it's SSE. A tiny round but surprisingly bright plage is seen just inside the SE limb.

An easy prom is seen on the NW limb. I see no voids within it. South of it lies a small detached prom. It may be associated with a filaprom seen on the NW limb. The filament portion is easier to see than the small prom portion is, though the detached portion is easy to see. A small double prom is noticed on the SW limb. GONG Ha images show a plasma bridge between them though I did not see this in double-stack.

The chromospheric mottling is visual, as it usually is.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x, 50x and 62.5x ( WL )
I can see eight active regions on the white light photosphere today! Three in the northern hemisphere with all three having been assigned numbers and five in the southern hemisphere with three having assigned numbers.

A bright patch of faculae is seen in the NE quadrant. I can see a couple of spots within it. This is AR13067. AR13064 is seen nearing the NW limb as a patch of faculae. Very near the limb lies what little is still visible of AR13063. It too is just faculae.

AR13065 is visible as a patch of faculae with a spot and pore within it. SDO shows a bit more on the pores here. Just SE lies a single large pore that is associated with maybe another system developing there. Ha shows plage in this area. Further east AR13062 shows a well developed spot showing a light bridge into the NE side of it's umbra. The well developed penumbra shows a nick in the NW side. A pore is seen just to the spot's SSE. AR13066 is seen just to the NE of AR13062 as a two or three tiny spot system. An easy facula is seen very near the SE limb. SDO HMIc high rez shows a single tiny pore there. I can only see the facula.

The fine granulation of the photosphere can easily be seen today.

It's hump day!!! 🐪

James

Thanks James.

Meanwhile in Northeast Scotland clouds rule the skies!

James, what is hump day? is that something rude? :)

Great to hear about all the ARs, we still have grey cloud, it is starting to get annoying.

Nah, it's a saying here. Wednesday is the middle of the week. So when you go through Wednesday you are going over the " hump " so by Thursday you are going downhill to the weekend! Monday and Tuesday are uphill, Wednesday is the peak. The hump and Thursday and Friday are downhill to the weekend.

WooHoo!! And we are now rolling downhill!!
