What has happened to GONG.nso.edu??

Post by Radon86 »

Hi SCF,

What is wrong with GONG (gong.nso.edu).
Images are days or weeks old and sometimes only 1 site is showing an image, not always so good. Are they cost cutting ? To save on electricity, maybe going GREEN to save the planet ?

Thanks.

Magnus

I've noticed this too, I've guessed it is bad weather, most seem only a few hours out of date, however Udaipur is 29 days so something must be technically wrong with this one :(

And Learmonth seems to be WAY off-band!

Hi Alexandra,

3 out of 7 now working.
Cerro Tololo is the best, usually best and detailed images.

Udaipur rarely works and Learmonth is certainly off band. Cerro Tololo was down for a while until very recently. I like Big Bear because it most closely resembles the visual view.

I usually use Big Bear or Cerro Tololo. Occasionally El Teide or Mauna Loa.

I'm with Kevin.
I tried to make contact with Learmonth but couldn't get through.
had to rely on older data to see what was happening to that recent big prom.
Lets hope it gets fixed very soon.

The Kanzelhohe Solar Observatory makes a good substitute for GONG when it's not clouded out. Since it's in Austria it's best set up for the time in Europe.

Hi

The Gong telescopes are each automatic in enclosures. And only maintained occasionally.

Cheers. Andrew.
