have you tried using a diaphragm in front of the imaging lens to get sharper images and more contrast ? It can work really well .

I placed if just in front of the lens that forms the image of the spectrum on the CCD . It wont be like a proper Lyot stop but it will help getting a sharper image and even enhancing the general contrast.
