Calcium Sun 8th August

Post by marktownley »

Hi Everyone.

Been a bit busy of late, have been stopping at my parents house to help out with some chores that needed doing - lots of gardening, putting fences in, moving furniture around etc - they're getting on a bit now and need help with this sort of stuff. Anyway, jobs done and i'm back at home now and with good weather forecast I was keen to do a bit of solar, and to also try out my new laptop (that i've finally got around to buying) specifically for the purpose of imaging - my old laptop was shy on ram, memory and processing speed; the new one is a beast and AS3 chews through video files in no time. The old laptop was definitely a bottle neck.

My session today was eaten into, as I forgot how long it takes to download and configure everything, so started a little later than would like, and the school boy error as my 12v battery for the mount ran out of juice pretty much minutes after the 20v secondary battery I use for the laptop also ran flat, hey ho!

Anyway, it was a calcium day, and with plenty of storage space available on the laptop I was able to capture plenty of frames with a larger aperture knowing lucky imaging would prevail!

First off the full disk, ED80 stopped down to 60mm with the zwo183mm camera.

Some closer views with 100mm f19 with the zwo290mm...

And where the seeing wasn't being as nice, 80mm f15 with the zwo183mm

Quite pleased with how these came out as the sky was quite hazy at times with contrails spreading out across the sky. Hopefully tuesday, with charged batteries and configured software should allow time for a bit more imaging.

Hope you like these

Mark

Excellent images in CaK, Mark. Also the close ups came out really well, the penumbras are very well defined. Happy to hear about your new, breaking the speed barrier laptop: that helps a lot. Nic: congrats on your new CaK module, you will have a lot of fun with it...

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

Looking forward to seeing results from your new CaK module Nic, your ED80 is pretty much optically perfect at 393nm when stopped down to 60mm.

Excellent CaK images, Mark!

Having a fast computer is really valuable for both image capture and processing.

What's the spec on your new computer?

Best regards,
Arne

It's an i7, 2.8Ghz processor, 64Gb Ram, 2Tb SSD. AS3 loves all the ram, and just chews through the files with lightning speed :)

Mark,
I always enjoy your CaK work. You are good at it and it is something as of yet I cannot do.

That’s a really nice spec’d out computer. Windows 11 I presume?

James
