Harvest Sunset

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi everyone...

I returned form holidays to find that the 2022 winter wheat harvest is in full gear...every combine ion the countryside is out hard at the harvest. Nice to hear that the yields are good and my customers are happy...neighbors and family included ;)

The past few days the neighbor has been working on the wheat across from our house. Friday night I shot these pics of the combine working and another where the straw is being baled:

They were just finished the field last night before sunset and we had some nice colors in the clouds on the western horizon. There were also many Canada Geese between the bales scavenging for waste wheat. Friday night also saw the return o of a small flock of Sandhill Cranes, but the were not in the field last night. Hear are a few samples of the sunset:

Thank you Brian for the beautiful bucolic views. Glad to hear things are going well: we live in a very complicated world these days.

These are beautiful Brian, the summer season seems so fast in Canada, it only seems 5 minutes ago you still had snow. Plants grow and blossom to harvest so fast for you. Ours grow so slowly and for such a long time. However, our farmers are hard at the harvest too, we had an unusual (well, record breaking) temperatures in July and now all the wheat is ready to harvest in August rather than September.

Alexandra
PS I hope you are well Brian and not suffering too much with the plague :(

Thanks Alexandra...

So far the 'plague' has me congested, tired. and alight cough...but surviving ;)

Growing conditions vary, and this too was evident when we were in Alberta in recent weeks. Their wheat, oats, barley, and canola are well behind our spring planted crops but there was a lot of wet weather that delayed planting so it isn't a fair comparison. We try to cram a lot into the 6 months that offer poor skiing conditions

Nice, Brian. My favourite is the sunset with the rolls in the distance.

That's a great post Brian, everything looks so green and lush compared to our parched landscape.

Thanks Martin :bow

We have been dry for the better part of a month here, but nothing like you experience I'm sure! Finally getting some rain today which should help most of the crops.
