Images and animation of large prom 8/3/2022

Post by rigel123 »

Had a decent morning with about an hour of cloudless skies to capture a nice animation of the huge prom on the East Limb. 55 minutes in real time, seeing was variable so left the disk white since it ballooned and shrunk during different seeing moments. The full disk was a bit off band on the lower right as I forgot to take time to center the disk in the sweet spot (I hurried!)

Thanks James, Rusted and Iwols for the comments! Iwols, do you mean the actual size of the file itself or how I compress 55 minutes into 7 seconds?

So the animation is made by capturing 500 frames as an AVI every 30 seconds. I did this over an hours time so ended up with 120 individual AVI's to process. These were then processed in Autostakkert to produce 120 TIF's which were then processed in ImPPG. All 120 TIF's were then also aligned in ImPPG and then imported into Photoshop to be cropped and turned into a GIF. I set a frame rate of .05 seconds so the resulting animation runs for about 7 seconds. I think the file size was around 7mb for this particular animation which I post on my Flickr site as well as Astrobin. I then imported a link to the file so it plays on Solar Chat. For an in depth look at how I produce an animation you can watch the tutorial I made about 2 years ago here: https://youtu.be/AI2PGDVrxk0

Hope this answers your question!
