CaK Closeups 12th August

Post by marktownley »

The great CaK experiment continues... Friday was clocking filters and tilting ERFs by correct amount to throw ghost reflections and reduce scatter.

First off an overview disk, taken with the APM 100/800 stopped down to give 80mm f10 with the ZWO183

Next up, the test for those pesky ghosts removed is the CaK proms. Taken with the ED80 stopped down to 60mm f10, again ZWO183

My tip if you want to try and shoot the proms in CaK, increase exposure time as much as possible, and keep gain as low as possible to keep noise to minimal levels...

Next up the closeups, and the seeing was better on Friday (best day of the week), so, I hauled the big gun out and went for 120mm f27 with the ZWO290mm.

Pleased with how these came out, I hope you like them! I'm just about to head out for a bit more CaK action, so expect some more later.

Mark

An excellent set of surface and proms, Mark. Interesting to follow what you are doing.

Great CaK, Mark!!!
Very cool closeups, 120f27 and 290 works well.

100% agreed, waiting for proms closeups!
I don't have 290, my best attempt especially at proms was with 432 which had the least noise at high gain, unlike 174 with which the noise did not allowed to get proms.

Very nice on all Mark. That is a great full disc and the proms show up well in CaK too. The supergranulation is easily seen in your CaK closeups!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Looks like my days of clear skies are done now, very hazy this morning so far.

See if you can cut through the haze in white light.
