Aug 14, 2022, Quark+Lunt 40mm double stack @ 127mm aperture

Post by Oak »

Hi All,

I had first light on a new solar setup yesterday and wanted to share the first image. I was only able to get one 30-second capture before clouds rolled in – and this before I could really adjust the tilt adapter or capture settings as I would have liked. The result is better than I had hoped given the conditions. These are taken with a Quark+Lunt 40mm double stack in a 127mm/1200 (2-inch 35nm H-alpha filter as ERF). Exposures are 6ms, 60fps, with high gain using a camera with 4.8um pixels at f/39.5. Clearly, lots to optimize, but that should be enjoyable. Visually, it was also pretty awesome.

Best,
Derek

WoW that's impressive for such a quick 30 second capture with few adjustments. The color really brings it to life too!!

That's an amazing result for a first time session Derek, well done.

Hi Derek,
:band

Marvellous images Derek!!
How did you make this double stack ? Is the order: OTA: ERF: Lunt 40mm then Quark: Camera

Any chance of a photo of your wonderful scope ?

Thanks!
Magnus

Hi Magnus,

Thanks!
Here is the double stack:

Image

It is first the quark, then the Lunt 40mm.

The telescope is below: Bresser AR127L --> 2inch Badder 35nm H-alpha (ERF) --> Extension tubes --> Quark+Lunt Double stack --> Diagonal --> Binoviewers. The mount is a Bresser Exos2 motorized with OnStep (still a work in progress, hence the cardboard project box).

Thanks! Yep "inexpensive" achromat that has an easy dual speed focuser upgrade.
