Comet K2 Panstarrs

Here's something different from my Solar Imaging. Comet K2 Panstarrs, which I am imaging right now in my light polluted backyard at Wellington Point, about 25 Kms from the Brisbane CBD. At the moment it's almost directly overhead in the constellation Scorpius. Don't worry if you miss it, over the next month. It will be back in 110,000 years.

Imaged with my Skywatcher ED72, ASI 183 MC pro. Live stacked for 30 mins in ASICAP , no post processing except for resizing and cropping for posting.


H alpha : ,Skywatcher 120mm F8 open frame refractor, a tilted 2" 7nm H-alpha filter as a sub energy rejection filter, Baader TZ4 telecentric focal extender, Player One energy rejection filter, Combo Quark Chromosphere, Naked PST etalon for double stacking, ASI74mm camera

That's because the comet is moving at a different rate and direction to the stars.

Wow!!! it is an odd colour too, very green. I've not seen a comet since the beauty in 2020 of Neowise.

James, it's mag 10.9 It might be a a binocular object if you have good skies.

I missed Neowise, Hale Bopp in 1997 was for us folks down under, one of the best ever.

Martin...

I get views of Scorpius but the lowest arch of its tail almost hugs the southern horizon for me.

Views from the southern hemisphere with the heart of the Milky Way overhead would be awesome to behold...perhaps one day :)
