02 September 2022 AR3092 - AR3089
I started this morning with the ASI290MM camera and a 0.5x reducer.
The seeing was so bad that the whole picture bounced up and down, left and right...
There was also some haze high in the sky.
These recordings were really useless.
Than I used the ASI174MM camera with 0.5x reducer and it was a bit better, but really not okay ...
TOA 150mm with DERF.
Solar Spectrum 0.7A / DS.
INX174MM - 0.5x reducer.

We must have shared the same poor seeing conditions.
The difference was that you produced some excellent images.
While most of mine looked like finger paintings.

The time that I have a good seeing is maybe a handful days in a whole year.
All the rest is very challenging...

Re: 02 September 2022 AR3092 - AR3089
I keep trying to analyse whether I have poor local seeing or it is more atmospheric. Or mixed.
There is an easterly breeze today. Which should be scavenging any excess warmth from the dome.
It seems to be working today but there is also a shed roof to the east right beside the dome.
So the wind could be blowing away any convection currents from the shed roof.
The only true way to test this might be to capture well away from the fixed location but using the same instrument.
If the seeing improves then it must be the local conditions which are poor. [?]

Fantastic pictures. Amazing details and processing.
I do not look at the sky with the eyes of an astronomer, but of a person looking for the beauty of nature.

These are absolutely gorgeous I need to get my 4x telecentric back so I can use my SolarSpectrum again, it's been out of commission for months now

Thanks Alexandra, I have experienced if the seeing is not really okay that the Solar Spectrum creates some blurry images.

Thanks Mark.
I'd need to save up my pocket money for one of those.
Besides which, nobody seems to have any stock at the moment.

Re: 02 September 2022 AR3092 - AR3089
Hi, MAURITS
These are top notch images. I really like seeing solid looking filaproms on the limb. The double stack works well.
I have a Solar Spectrum 0.5Å etalon which I would like to double stack. Which etalon do you use in your double stack?
Lou

Re: 02 September 2022 AR3092 - AR3089
Lou I use a SolarScope Etalon for double stack in a 2" cell with T2 thread on both ends from "Beloptik" Germany.
The DS module is located just before the Baader prisma.(all you can see is a little adjustment wheel).
