Sun Full Disk Ha - September 2, 2022

Post by Sumpy »

Seeing was a bit better today, but still not great. Those thin wispy clouds that you can barely see were quite abundant this morning.

Excelent pictures. :bow

You have had better luck than I have. It's mostly cloudy here today with rain chances increasing through the weekend.

I left the mount and camera running for nearly 2 hours for a time-lapse after I grabbed this image, but with those thin clouds I'm not super hopeful. It's processing now, so fingers crossed.

The weekend weather looks to be pretty much the same here. It may be a good weekend for me to finally pause a moment to design and print a few aperture masks.

As I expected, clouds ruined a big chunk of the timelapse captures today. There was one pretty cool little catch, however:

However, that’s a good little catch. A surge prom maybe?

I'm guessing so - it happened fast. I saw it seemingly just appear in the monitor, and it was gone within probably 20 minutes.

Although the disk space requirements are insane, capturing the full disk as an animated series let me catch this in an otherwise inactive area that day. I captured (and later deleted after stacking) over 275GB of raw SER data in just a couple hours. It's probably time to start thinking about an SSD upgrade if I'm going to continue attempting these.

Thanks so much for the kind words, all!
