G1 and G2 Geomagnetic Storms 3/4th September 2022

Post by Carbon60 »

Over the past couple of days, two geomagnetic storms in quick succession have been rattling my magnetometer here in the UK, simultaneously producing beautiful aurora north and south of the planet. Here are my data captured through both events.

It appears that the second is still in progress.

Thanks for looking.

Interesting. is your magnometer made of a linear polarizing unit and a 1/4 wave retarder? have you a design of it?

Thanks Stu, darker nights coming, lets hope for some decent northern lights this solar cycle.

Hi Fluvio,
I think there's some misunderstanding. This is a ground based Earth magnetometer based on a fluxgate sensor rather than an optical system analysing sunspots.

I sure hope so, Mark. Clear nights would help :)

Great to hear Stuart :hamster: I got a couple of alerts for these, I think they were visible in the Shetlands

Thanks Alexandra.

Here's an updated chart. Things seem to be settling down now.

Hi Alexandra,
Yes, there was a little uptick in activity last evening. It isn’t over until it’s over, as the saying goes
