Ha, WL and CaK from 9/9/2022

Post by rigel123 »

Haven't done this in a while but all the animations looked like still pictures anyway so I pulled out the Orion ED80T and caught 2 more wavelengths on a beautiful day. Ha - Lunt LS60T DS/WL - Lunt WL Wedge with Baader Continuum Filter ED80T/CaK - Lunt CaK BF1200 on ED80T Camera: ASI174MM

And of course a funny side note. When I went to capture the CaK images I could not for the life of me figure out why I could not find the sun no matter the settings....until I realized I had not removed the continuum filter from the WL shots!

Nice set of shots, Warren.

And I'm sure we've all done things like that :)

These are beautiful Warren :bow :hamster: I think we have all done that :) My usual is not being able to find a hydrogen alpha disc when imaging with the PSTs, I always do CaK first and forget to remove the Baader K line. After doing it at least 10 times I am kind of getting the hang of it now ;)

I’ve done the same, Warren. The other thing I’ve done on my Lunt 60 is mistake an internal reflected image of the Sun for a direct image and wondered why the image was so dim and the quality so cr4p. Leaving the objective lens cover on is another classic error.

Nice images, Warren.

Thanks all for the kind comments and it’s always good to hear the funny stories we all have when working with the complicated equipment we all use!

Stu, I almost called Lunt to get an RGA number to send my scope in when I did the same thing with one of the reflection disks!
