Ha belated images / May 5 / C8 EdgeHD / double stack Ha

Post by christian viladrich »

Hi,

Here are some old Ha images taken on May, 5 with the C8 EdgeHD:

A group of sunspots hardly visible with the double stack filter, since it is nearly completely covered by fibrils :

A set of prominences, some shows very fine details while others look fuzzier:

Clear skies

Excellent photos. It can be seen that the diameter of 200mm will do its job. With my AR150/F6, I was only able to capture details when there was really exceptional seeing.

I do not look at the sky with the eyes of an astronomer, but of a person looking for the beauty of nature.

Superb work Christian. I would consider getting a C8EdgeHD vs a 152mm refractor.

Absolutely exceptional :bow :hamster: I see that some areas of the prom are very detailed whereas other areas are soft. I have seen this before in my own images, I wonder if these areas are moving faster (motion blur) compared to other areas or whether it is just different structures within the prominences.

Awesome images, Christian!

Every time I see images from your hand I dream of larger aperture :-) I do know however that it's more to more to it - like good seeing and acquisition and processing skills!

Best regards,
Arne

Indeed Alexandra, this is something a bit puzzling. I investigated it by reducing the length of the film used for stacking by Autostakkert 3 to about 10 s. You can do it by choosing the option "limit" at the right of the "open" button"
There was no difference at all in the result, meaning no motion blur. So, for some reasons, some prominences look a bit soft. Maybe we have overlapping structure along the line of sight ? I don't know.

This is a bit the same for the spicules visible at the solar limb. A few of them are moving very fast, but others remain very soft even if the duration of the film is reduced to 5 - 10 s, and others are very sharp.
