Sun - Ha & White Light Full Disk - September 14, 2022
Earlier this week James noticed artifacts in my WL images that I hadn't really noticed before, and those artifacts turned out to be noise that had crept in during the ImPPG step. I've cut way back on the LR sharpening in ImPPG for the WL images today, and also cut LR sharpening back a bit on the Ha image as well.
I know that sharpening for solar work is a fine balance between the soft, fuzzy, non-distinct surface of the sun, and actually being able to see contrast and detail in the image. Any thoughts on if I am still over sharpening? I welcome any input or suggestions.
And dang take a look at that massive prominence!

Hello Brian,
The Ha image is nicely processed !
Regarding the WL image, the image with the W58A is slightly better. Still, if you can, I would suggest to use a trichromic green filter (Astronomik, Baader CCD, ZWO, etc.). Indeed, the W58A transmits IR light, which is recorded by the camera, reducing the contrast and resolution of the image. You would have a better resolution with a trichromic green filter.

Thanks so much for the kind words, all! Still trying to improve day by day.
When you say trichromatic, do you mean like the Baader CMOS optimized green filter, or the Baader 500nm bandpass green filter? I assume the latter?
500nm Bandpass Green: https://agenaastro.com/baader-green-fil ... 58304.html
I've been searching for a solar continuum filter that is in stock with no luck, which led me to try the green filter I had on hand.
Thanks Christian - I greatly appreciate your insight!christian viladrich wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 9:24 am The Ha image is nicely processed !

I meant filters with a "square" transmission curve. These filters have a high peak transmission and cut most of the IR. For example :Sumpy wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 1:39 pm Thanks so much for the kind words, all! Still trying to improve day by day.

Baader CMOS optimized :

ZWO :

Astronomik :
https://www.astronomik.com/en/fotografi ... rsatz.html
You just need the green filter, not the whole LRGB set.
The Baader continuum is a bit dark (because of its narrow bandpass), this is why I would rather recommend a green filter.
