Saturday Sunshine 17th September

Post by marktownley »

It's been over a month since i've been able to image the sun - too long! And so when saturday was forecast decent weather I was not going to let the opportunity pass. As Stu noted seeing was poop, meteoblue was telling me 1.7" and worsening. I decided to try 60mm in CaK and 90mm in Ha, this was pushing things and I struggled to get much, with the close ups in Cak all being mush. I think seeing was probably closer to 2" (in the good bits!).

Anyway, I did a quick look on GONG and saw a lack of any real proms, so was pleased with what the SM90 (single stack) revealed. This was taken at prime focus withe the zwo183mm camera. Lots of zoom in on Flickr.

The CaK disk was taken at 60mm f10 (ED80 stopped down to 60mm), again with the zwo183mm and the home brew CaK filter.

Going to have a look at the closer views and see if there is any salvage...

Hope you like these

Mark

I really like your disks, Mark. The Ha disk has excellent resolution when you enlarge the image.

It’s so frustrating to find the time to image on a sunny day only to find the seeing really letting things down for hi-res work. Good job we have FDs to fall back on. Very nicely done in both lights. That home brew CaK setup works really well.

Your DS90 closeups look in quite nice agreement with the SHG closeup I did on the same day: download/file.php?id=72579. I can see the etalon was better able to cope with the slightly non-deal seeing conditions. Any kind of rapid fluctuations will smear out the SHG images pretty effectively.
