21st Sept Solar flare

Post by JohnW »

21st Sept UT.
(22st Sept early morning in SE Australia).
I noticed a small solar flare this morning at 23.30 UT but still 21st Sept UT. It reached a maximum of C6.7 at 23.20 hrs just before I could image it.
It is the bright white area near AR 3105/6. It lasted for about 30 minutes.
Both images are single exposures thru a Lunt 100 Ha scope using a Canon 550d camera. Sky conditions were not the best and I had to image with a tree close by.
I have also included a image of the sunspots on 21st Sept taken earlier. It is also a single exposure taken at 540 nm wavelength with a Herschel wedge attached to a WO 81 mm scope using a Canon 550d camera.
Thanks for viewing.
John W.

Congrats on the flare catch, John. I thought when I saw the large groups in the SE quadrant this morning that it would possibly be a flare producer. You have confirmed this. Now for something a bit bigger!!

Nice images. I especially like the 540nm photosphere image.

That's a lucky catch John :bow :hamster: this region seems to be doing a lot of flaring, I think this is the same region that Martin caught a flare on the limb earlier in the week.
