Sol from the 19th and 21st of September 2022.

Post by eroel »

Hello:
Well, at my place bad weather and earthquakes, happened to get a FD set the 19th before a big quake, this is the story.
In México City, we have quake drills where the city alarms start to sound about 60 seconds before we get the quake, so the citizens get out of buildings and houses and go to a safe place that we have chosen.
The 19th was the date of one of these drills, a date that we remind because we had in 1985 an 8,5 magnitude quake, and in 2017 also a strong quake and the funny part being that also the 19th of September 2022 we got one after the drill.
At noon of the 19th I was trying to get an image of the Sun, but it was clouded but got a quick hole so to get just one recording of the "surface" and another of the "protuberances", then the drill started with the sound of the alarms sirens and vocal explanation of them, so left the observatory and got to the safe place that my wife and the family had picked, and stayed ther until the drill was over.
So I went back to my home observatory to close it, because it was fully clouded when suddenly the quake alarms started again, so I thought that it was a mistake but after a few seconds it started to swing, so got down quick to the safe place where my wife was waiting for me.
The home hanging lights were swinging as also the doors, so we stayed at the safe place until the alarms stopped, so we had a 7.6 magnitude quake.
The funny part is that the 21st of September at 1.16 am, we waked up with the quake alarm sounds and we had a 6.8 magnitude quake that was a "Replica" of the same quake from the 19th, so as you can see we had bad weather plus hard quakes, but also got some solar shots from the 21st of September at noon.
Thanks for looking the images and the SSM graph from the 19th that shows the bad conditions.
Wish you all a nice sunny weekend without quakes.
Best regards to all.
Eric.

WoW, Eric. It sounds quite scary. Did it do any damage to your house or observatory? 7.6 magnitude is quite strong. I heard about the quakes on the news and wondered if they had affected You and Rainer. We occasionally have small tremors here that can be felt at times and may get strong enough to crack stucco or concrete but nothing like magnitude 7.6!!

Nice pictures as usual. Very sharp and detailed. I especially love your CaK images.

Be safe and take care Mr. Roel.

James

Perfect work.

Excellent images, Eric: you are a dedicated man, imaging the sun while an earthquake is occurring. I am glad you and family are safe.

Eric, it is so lovely to see your wonderful images again and I am glad you are safe. It sounds like a rough ride!! I know that even Rainer had a bad quake during the week (see post on the Sunlit Earth section) I wonder if this is the same as your experience?

Alexandra and guys, thanks for looking and commenting on the quakes and asking how we are.
Alexandra, yes Rainer experience in San Luis Potosí is also from the quakes we suffer, because in Mexico City we are nearer the quake belt zone and we get it stronger than in other upper zones.
The good part is that the city has a very interesting alarm setups, that when in the Mexican Republic there is a quake, it measures it and if 6 or above magnitude it starts the alarms about 100 seconds before we get it, so we have time to get out of buildings, houses and get to a safe place. The drills made during the year, shows people how to get out of buildings safer and quicker, all places have guys that are the ones that organize the evacuations to a safe place.
The eathquake we had the 19th has now above 1600 replicas, most of them are below the 6 magnitude, so today I felt 1 replicas of the 4th magnitude, though no alarms sound and you barely feel it or can see it in the monitor of the imaging recording you are making, felt many that way when the image starts to drift all over the place.
Well, thanks again and have a sunny quake less end of the week.
Eric.

Sounds dramatic with the earthquake! I've luckily never experienced any!

Great images as always!
