Sunday 2nd October 2022

Post by Montana »

Just a quick internet, I am tethering to the hubby's mobile phone and it is very slow and only one of us can use it at a time.

Missing you all, I hope the internet gets fixed soon.

Had a lovely session with the DS Halpha PST this morning, I took a quick image (ASI174), then settled down to sketch for half an hour. I really enjoyed it.

WoW Alexandra! You certainly sketch the details better than I can describe them. Putting the monochrome image beside the sketches makes comparison easy too. Did you have any trouble with changing features during your half-hour sketch?

And you did an 8x32 SUNocular sketch too. AWESOME!!! :hamster:

That's a superb Ha colored disc too.

Thanks for posting these. I hope you had lots of fun under the Sun.

Fabulous disks Alexandra from you PST ! Your sketches are great too, you captured a lot of detail. Hoping your internet gets fixed soon, not nice to be offline for any period of time.

Wow, great sketching Alexandra. It brings back great memories of when I used to sketch the moon with a Carton 60mm f/7 achromat on an unguided mount in the 1980's.
I'd then go back inside and compare my sketches with my moon atlas.
Great days when things were so much simpler.

It's neat to go back and forth between the PST and the sketch. There's detail in the sketch that make me go back to the PST image and look more carefully.

Thanks guys, it was really relaxing. Today I can't connect to the phone (no idea why, Windows 10 probably disliking Apple today) but the cottage wifi seems to last in one minute bursts, long enough to write this. It is soooo annoying.

One thing I found was that this cottage has amazing seeing. Considering it was just after a weather front yesterday (usually bad seeing) the PST was rock solid and the clearest I have ever seen, clearer than at home. I can imagine that it would be a fantastic place to bring the C11 :)

James, not much change on a grand scale over 30 minutes apart from the bright points in the active region kept changing but I haven't found a good way to show bright areas yet with a dark pencil ;)

I could see lots more proms than the image shows.

Thanks guys, Mark yes I hope so, apparently a new router is on the way :) trying to persuade this computer to link to the Apple is an art and the 4G is very slow :(

I just discovered today that there is a whole chapter (10) on solar sketching in the Solar Astronomy book. I better read this evening :)
