Sun before rain - October 8th

Post by RichardJ »

Lovely early morning Sun before the cloud and rain set in.
Sun at low altitude so images not as detailed as I'd like, but you take what you can get.
Apologies for not orientating the Sun correctly.

RichardJ :)

Hi James,

Thank you.

Skywatcher Evostar 72mm scope , ZWO120MC camera and Teleview 3x Barlow for the close up.
I use an alt az mount and take AVIs as the Sun drifts across the field of view. Processed in Autostakkert and Photoshop CS5.
Not ideal but I only had a brief window of opportunity.

Richard.

Richard,
Your tech is similar to mine. I have an Astro-Tech AT72EDII and a ZWO ASI178MM. 2x CeMax barlow. And unguided mounts imaging the same way. It's nice to not be alone in this way :-)

Nice shot Richard! When I don’t have much time I set up on a Port-A-Mount and also just capture while the sun drifts through the FOV. It’s much easier with a tracking mount but it’s definitely doable!

Thank you. I also try and orientate the camera so as the Sun drifts across, it does so across the maximum side dimension of the camera chip. Gives me the maximum number of frames to process but I’m sure this is what most people do.

Richard.

Richard,
Most people who use set ups like ours use them for visual observing. That’s certainly true for me.
