I made the best use I could of the window of time from 11:00 am to 11:40am when the Sun was visible from my balcony. The sky was quite clear, though conditions were a bit windy. The wind can cause the mount to vibrate and create scan disturbances. I was able to take a lot of scans but many seemed to have narrow segments of the scan that were "blurred", most likely from the wind vibration.
The imaging setup was the same as the previous post from Oct 16 viewtopic.php?t=38464. The image below is a stack of 12 manually selected frames from a total of 24 (AS!3, ImPPG, Photoshop Elements). I used Tilting Sun to determine that the solar equator was 26 degrees rotated. I rotated the image in Photoshop by 30 degrees (it looked a little better than 26). The southern hemisphere seems to be where all the action is at the moment so although I did a full disk scan, I only present here the southern part. Click on the image to see at higher resolution.
I include below a photo of the current spectrometer setup, with the new lens on the 183MM camera. The collimator lens is 135mm f3.5 and the camera lens is 150mm f4, both Asahi Pentax Super-Takumar M42 SLR lenses. I recently eliminated the tilt adjustment in front of the slit; it turned out the problem was with the positioning of the diffraction grating. The electronic focuser on the refractor telescope has turned out to be extremely useful. The blue and red markings on the 2400 l/mm holographic grating indicate the positions for H-alpha and Ca-K/H (currently set for H-alpha). The white tape has markings to show the correct lens focus at H-alpha. Some small focus adjustments are typically necessary when imaging near 400nm.
