Higher-Res: Full animation of Solar eclipse, 25 Oct 2022, 2h 47 min

Post by H-Alpha »

Hi all,

After some comments (thanks James) I realized that the solar activity in H-alpha (proms and surface) was not visible in the FD version of the animation, unless you have a huge screen and resolution. Therefore, I tried an alternative version where activity and especially the moving proms are much better visible.

For best viewing, please click on the following link:

Hope you like/prefer it.

Best wishes,
Alexandros

There's actually quite a bit of activity going on when one studies the disc closely.

Hi Alexandros,

Looks interesting but the prior animation you had with the full for my taste says a lot more then this cropped version.

The full disk eclipse has for me a bigger WOW effect then this one.

I know, taste is a huge variable in human life ...

The high res details in proms and mottles are really unique in this version, of course I do agree with Rainer as well, the other has greater large scale impact.

Incredible. I bet you can squeeze considerable more contrast on disk features with local histogram normalization in PixInsight.

Hi an thank you Minhlead,

I tried PixInsight last summer (trial version) to process deep sky photography. I have very limited knowledge on it so far. I am thinking to purchase it at a certain moment when I will have much more time to work on it and learn more.

With which particular tool(s) in PixInsight I could squeeze more contrast as you wrote?

Best wishes,
Alexandros

LocalHistogramNormalization. You can try lower the detail threshold (I use 16 and use very alight strength . I usually use 0.2-0.3 play with the contrast until you satisfied). This tool can give a lot of contrast to small feature like spicule/magnetic field lines...
