Solar filament 3rd November 2022

Post by Rob63 »

Managed a quick capture yesterday lunchtime of the impressive Solar filament in the south west.
Using an ED80 scope with the Quark on a Scopetech Mount Zero, it was supposed to be a purely visual session but this one needed capturing.

Thanks Warren,
it turned out well considering I was using a manual mount and letting the Sun drift across the frame while making a few adjustments.

Particularly at that resolution! I saw on Gong that this filament lifted off spectacularly earlier this morning.

Thanks Martin, I replaced the blocking filter in my Quark earlier this year and it's back to its best.

This is quite an interesting shaped filament, it must be a very tall prominence if viewed from the side, you can see the 3D appearance in your shot :bow :hamster:

It's completely gone now so I assume it was rising when I spotted it, I love the dynamic nature of Solar observing.

It started really lifting off at about 00:15 UTC watching some of the GONG videos.
