Thanks all ... :)

Opportunities are a bit thin on the ground right now with work and only a three hour opening at weekends , so I've just purchased a 150-600mm zoom for the EOS 2000D and a 95mm Baader ND5.0 filter for it .

I should at least now be able to grab some daily 'snaps' at least from the scaffold when the Sun shows himself ... especially as he's just woken up after a brief siesta ...

Cool. I remember you mentioning those now. 15x70s are big to carry around though. I have a friend who has a pair through Orion. While not as powerful the 8x32s are VERY portable. The 15x70s will of course show details better but you probably need a tripod to steady them.

Congrats on the new camera lens. It should serve you well.

James

P.S. I have a Nikon 300mm zoom for my D3500 Nikon DSLR. I have never thought about using it for solar imaging. Hmmm..

Not sure 300mm will get you in very close sir , certainly doesn't get me much detail on the Moon at the same angular size.

I run the TAL at about 1800mm with the Barlow to fill my APS-C sensor so even 600mm will be getting me little more than a snapshot.

I thought about getting a 2x teleconverter as well but all the recommendations say not too as it runs the lens up to around f11 for a starting point , too tight for every day use generally.

Yeah The 300mm would not be enough to compete with even a small scope. It's a bit less than the 8x32s actually. It still would show up major groups and spots though. My Nikon is APS-C also. Not full-frame. I have never really considered using it since I have small refractors and the videocams for white light. I do occasionally use the iPhone though because it is always at hand and I have used the DSLR a few times on the scope before I got the ZWO ASI178MM.
