November 14 2022 White Light Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Today I got only a short white light session through clouds around 16:17 UTC. The skies are mostly cloudy with high and medium level clouds. The seeing is well below average but not as poor as yesterday was. The temperature is a cold 38F ( 3.3C ). The wind has abated.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 41.5x ( WL )
Today I can see five areas of activity across the solar photosphere. Three of these are numbered on the SDO continuum SWL image and an additional one on the SM images. All are in the northern hemisphere.

AR13146 in the NE quadrant is visible as two small spots and one pore. SDO shows several additional pores. To the east near the limb lies a patch of faculae. I can see no spots or pores there. Three visible regions lie in close proximity in the NW quadrant nearing the limb. AR13141 is visible as four spots. I can see the now atrophied umbrae within their penumbrae. SDOHMIc shows some additional pores especially between the two small easternmost spots. AR13140 to the NNW of AR13141 shows the irregular umbrae and penumbrae form of it's four spots. The easternmost spots have NE extensions! I cannot see anything of AR13145 just east of AR13140. Seeing probably keeps me from seeing those small pores. I can see the faculae of AR13142 just NW of AR13140.

I see nothing at all in the southern hemisphere and I don't see any granulation at all.

Carpe Lumen!

James

Interesting Aaron. I’ll have to find a GONG image from that time when I get a chance.

Observations as well as imaging is going to drop off fairly precipitously over the next few months I’m afraid! Glad you caught a glimpse!

(At least at our latitudes!)

Yes it is, unless something unexpected appears on the eastern limb.

I am cloudy under rainy skies today on the 15th.

James
