November 20 2022 WL Observations
My session time was from 17:16 until 17:55 UTC. The skies are milky-overcast and the seeing is well below average at session's beginning getting to almost average by session's end. The temperature is 41F ( 5C ). What happened to those 25C days that I was enjoying not so long ago!? :-( The solar wedge on the AT72EDII unlike the glass filter on the Orion70 can adjust the brightness of the view helping me to see though all these milky clouds.
Astro-Tech AT72EDII w/Altair wedge. 21.6x, 36x and 54x ( WL )
Today I can see six active regions on the continuum photosphere. Three in the northern hemisphere with two being numbered on the KSO images and and the third being numbered on the SM images. Three regions are seen in the southern hemisphere with two of those having numbers on the KSO images.
I could count a dozen spots at 54x in AR13149 located in the NE quadrant. I think this system will continue to develop further and has M-class flare potential, maybe an X-class if we are lucky. A small 13th spot/pore is seen SW of the main body of spots. AR13150 is seen as a group of six small spots/pores in the NW quadrant. Faculae are visible around them. The faculae of AR13146 is visible just NE of AR13150.
A close look reveals a narrow patch of faculae near the SW limb. The SDOHMI images show more faint faculae NE of this one but I never could see them. AR13147 is seen as a large prominent spot with a dark small trailing spot. I could glimpse some additional small pores late in the session through thinner clouds and improved seeing. The large spot itself has two umbrae, larger-west, smaller-east. Both surrounded by a shared penumbra. I cannot see any detail or mottling in the penumbra. 54x gives the best view. AR13148 to the SW of AR13147 shows itself as two small spots. I can only hint the tiny pores at the NE side of the spot-pair and that's only at 54x.
The fine granulation is not noticed at all. Clouds probably obscure it by lowering contrast.
Carpe Lumen!
James
After taking these pictures I rotated the scope level in the rings to better access the focusing knobs. The bottom knobs were a bit hard to get to with them oriented vertically!

A "mucky or murky" sky James.
At least your temperatures seem a tad-lower than ours at present.
Thanks
Terry

Terry,
Milky is the color of the murkiness!!
Aaron,
Polarizing eyepieces? Does anyone sell those commercially?

Re: November 20 2022 WL Observations
This is really interesting. I have read of people using polarizing filters screwed on the bottom of the eyepiece where filters are usually used but not on top. And it works better on top according to your research. I am surprised someone has not figured this out and made/patented a polarizing eyepiece. TeleVue makes an astigmatism corrector for people with eye astigmatism that do not wish to wear glasses while observing. This corrector fits on top of certain TeleVue eyepieces like your polarizing filter does. I wonder if there is a demand for polarizing filters for eyepieces. You could patent this idea if so and make some money and help some amateurs out!
James
P.S. You could call it the StarHugger Polarizing Eyepiece!! SPE for short!

Re: November 20 2022 WL Observations
Aaron,
Where do you get your polarizing filters and what size are they?
Alexandra,
I actually have two more white light capable scopes other than the AT72EDII. Of course my Celestron 102 which I often use for solar and my old venerable 1982 model Traq 534 60mm F12 refractor.
You are welcome, Franco!

Great report James, nice to see the setup and yes it's a murky sky, but always better than daily rain.

Re: November 20 2022 WL Observations
Today I am under a mostly overcast sky. The SUNoculars come into play here enabling me to quickly peer through small thin gaps in the cloud deck. I'll post shortly.
