Quick Full Disk 11/30/2022
Clear skies but 25mph gusts and now below freezing so didn't spend a lot of time, just got the disk in the FOV and grabbed some frames! Looks like a number of areas on the limb with some surge prom activity at the 4, 8 and 10:00 positions. Probably would have made for an interesting animation for any one of those regions. It is really nice to at least SEE the sun!!

Nice disk.
I do not look at the sky with the eyes of an astronomer, but of a person looking for the beauty of nature.

That's a very nice full Ha disc, Warren. I checked it out as well using the Slooh Canary5 Lunt60 telescope earlier today. I am glad you got to see the Sun!!

Re: Quick Full Disk 11/30/2022
Hello Warren!
I notice you take a lot of solar images, including Full discs. May I ask how you keep the file storage manageable?
Do you delete your video files after a set period, say immediately after you processed the video and are happy with it, or do you store them ? for how long 1 year ? 2 years or do you buy lots of hard drives and keep on buying hard drives ......??
Many thanks.
Magnus
ps. I am finding it hard to delete old video files, as I do not image that much, but still it takes effort and money to keep those files !

Re: Quick Full Disk 11/30/2022
Thanks for all of the comments! Magnus, once I have finished an image/animation I delete the video files and save the images and animations to an external HD. I also save the raw stacks that I make the animations from. I have a 2 terabyte external HD that I have had that has about 8 years of files and is just about to fill up. I have deleted some of my raw stack files of the older animations I made since I have the actual animations and don’t plan to reprocess any of them.
The other factor that plays into having less data that I need to store is I am usually shooting an ROI so fairly small files. Even my full disks are small files since I am greatly under sampling with my ASI174 and Lunt 60 with no barlow, but the details I pick up are satisfactory to me.

Thanks guys! Indeed Terry, the cost of storage has come down a lot in the last few years.

Terry
I actually ordered a 6 TB SSD (low price from Aliexpress this year). It turned out to be 8 TB ! I used it as normal, having tested it for faults. I did a Memtest on it but after 6 to 8 hours I stopped the test, having had no faults.
I loaded a few files up to 4-6 GB and had no problems.
After a few solar sessions with a focal reducer, I decided to move the files to the 8 TB SSD !
Only 1 or 2 GB got transferred ! The rest were lost ! Unfortunately I only moved the video files not copied them! So I lost those files.
Luckily I think I had either examined the files or had partially processed them, but not completely.
The moral of this: do not move your files, just copy them first. If the files are transferred ok to the SSD external drive, then you could delete the original files on the hard disc on your laptop.
But the external faulty SSD turned out to be faulty for a while. After a few months I had another check. All the simple tests show the drive is healthy and has 8 TB of free space, but I am afraid to use it ! It was too late to ask for a refund as AliExpress had a 30 day limit for claims.
Hopefully you will not have a bad experience like I have. Luckily those files are not super important !!
