November 29 2022 540nm Visual Session.

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Today I did both a visual and imaging session using the Coronado SolarMax II 90 in SS ( 656.28nm ) and the Astro-Tech AT72EDII at 540nm. The Coronado is used for imaging and I will post those images in a separate post when I get them finished in editing/processing and the Astro-Tech was used for visual photosphere. I will post that part of the session here. The temperature was 54F ( 12.2C ) and the skies are mostly clear. The seeing is fair/average.

Astro-Tech AT72EDII w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 21.5x and 43x ( WL )
Today I can only see three regions on the 540nm photosphere. A patch of faculae is seen neat the NE limb. AR13152 is now in the NW quadrant and shows three small spots in a line to my small refractor. The easternmost spot is the largest. AR13151 is visible as a patch of faculae very near the SW limb. SDO HMI images show a small spot there but I did not see it. The fine granulation of the photosphere is visible.

The Ha imaging part will come later. Probably late after work.

James

Thanks for the report James, I'm glad you got some sun. The fog persists here for the foreseeable. Winter is coming!

A very quiet disc, I look forward to the Halpha :hamster:

Could you have a quick look at this post James viewtopic.php?p=363900#p363900 I'm not sure which version of the 90 you own but you might be able to offer some help.

Alexandra,
I chimed in on the SMIII90 post. Stephen is certainly more familiar with that model more than I am. They are certainly a much more attractive instrument than mine. Theoretically they are better due to having completely external etalons but one thing I have never liked about Coronado is the center foot within the etalons. Refractors should NEVER have a central obstruction. That's where their sharpest performance is. Isn't the PST Coronado's only exception. I think they are unobstructed.

Yes, the PST is unobstructed but the double stack unit isn't ;)
