AR3153 December 3rd

Post by RichardJ »

First sunlight with my Skywatcher 120mm refractor.
Not bad optics for an achromat.
Seeing was only average.
Looking forward to seeing what I can achieve.

Nice pictures.

I do not look at the sky with the eyes of an astronomer, but of a person looking for the beauty of nature.

Great Imaging Richard, Skywatcher 120mm refractors are great for Solar work.

H alpha : ,Skywatcher 120mm F8 open frame refractor, a tilted 2" 7nm H-alpha filter as a sub energy rejection filter, Baader TZ4 telecentric focal extender, Player One energy rejection filter, Combo Quark Chromosphere, Naked PST etalon for double stacking, ASI74mm camera

Great first light Richard, I’d say you can expect great things with that scope in even better conditions! Is this using a wedge or full aperture filter?

Nice SPOD Richard. Congratulations!!

Achromats do fine for solar imaging, especially when used behind a filter that eliminates any chromatic aberration present. Like a 540nm green filter.

Hi Warren,

I use a Lunt wedge and solar continuum filter. I have a 1.25 inch wedge which works fine but I have a 2 inch wedge on order.

Richard :)
