Lots of activity at new AR on East Limb 12/3/2022

Post by rigel123 »

I had posted the animation from GONG images from earlier this morning, and right after I posted that, the sky cleared! Not great seeing but passable, so I was able to capture 1 hour and 5 minutes of that entire region. Some great surge proms and a very eruptive spike near the end of the animation. Once again capture with Firecapture, aligned and stacked in AS!3, curves in ImPPG and final processing in PS and Pixinsight to balance the histograms. I also calculated that the spike surge prom was traveling at nearly 221,000 mph as it blasted off! There was also a very faint prom on the SW Limb that appears to have lifted off, but you can only concentrate on one area at a time!!

221.000 MPH. Amazing! Now that's action and only can it be seen in an animation.

These look great Warren. That color animation with the spike/ jet is amazing. Calculating the speed adds another dimension to your work. Bravo!

Love your animation and stills, Warren. Great that you were able to calculate the speed.

Thanks James, Maurits and Peter! I was so glad I checked on things near the time I had planned on stopping the captures since that was when I noticed the little “bubble” that ended up being that explosive jet, so I extended the capture sequence.

Thanks Franco! That overlay that many of us have really helps in calculating those speeds. It really brings home how violent some of these events can be, and this is a pretty small event!
