Sun in Ha and CaK 7th December 2022

Post by Carbon60 »

I've been almost completely absent from Solarchat recently with one thing or another; mostly through decorating the new extension at home, which has taken more time than expected. Thankfully, the work is almost complete.

Today the Sun came out in a beautiful blue sky and I just had to break off and take a few shots of the large active regions both close up and in context on full disk views. Days like today cannot be completely wasted on painting and papering :)

First up, Ca II K in mono and colour:

... and the same in H-alpha

There was a beautiful large prom visible in H-alpha in the south west

...and here's the main active region AR13153

It was so nice to have a break :)

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

Absolutely right, Alexandra. We've been working to get everything completed so that we can 'trim up' for Christmas. We managed to get the outside lights up a couple of days ago (Julie insisted on that :) ), and this weekend we'll get the trees sorted and the other paraphernalia that goes along with them. As for the house itself, we'll be busy doing a bit of landscaping when the weather warms up a bit. I still have a few odd jobs to do indoors to stop me from getting too comfortable

Hi Tareq,
I thought I’d answered this previously. Maybe it was someone else asking the same question.

I use a Lunt CaK module (straight through 2” B1800) with an additional narrowband filter set inside the module (Omega CaK filter). Unfortunately, I don’t think these are available anymore (someone might correct me on this). The module is used on a simple 72 mm f6 ED refractor https://www.skyatnightmagazine.com/rev ... refractor/. I use a mask to reduce the aperture to close to 43 mm giving f10 at the filter. The B1800 is a bit of overkill given the focal length of the scope, but I also use this filter on other scopes.

A 2.7 x Barlow is used at the eyepiece to provide an enlarged image onto the sensor of a Basler acA2440-75um camera. The final image is a mosaic of four quadrants.

Hope this helps.

Stu.

Stu,

First, thank you very very much for answering me :ok:

Second, i can't remember if i asked you before or not, maybe yes then i forgot, maybe not then someone else asked and i voted to them, we will keep asking as long you are doing great all the time, well done.

I ordered this module as well last month, but due to not being in stock so i have to wait, it will take 2-3 weeks, now i believe almost 2 weeks passed and i am still waiting and i can wait, i ordered B1200 after i asked about which module, it is also straight thru type, i can't wait to get it, but you gave me an idea about using an extra/additional filter because i do have CaK or K-Line filter i bought earlier this year, that could be good who knows, or i buy a bit wider band UV/CaK/K-line so i don't block much for CaK module.
