12-8-22. Brief WL solar observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

I very briefly got a quick look at the solar disc using my Orion70 refractor at 25x around 17:00UTC. The view was so brief I had no time to see, much less study all the spot regions on the disc. I did notice the large spot of AR13153 now in the SW quadrant had a double umbra surrounded by an easy penumbra. This spot is large and really stands out on the disc. It's companion spot east of it is easily seen too. I could see each of these have a companion spot but I had no time for a closer study. AR13157 in the NE quadrant is seen as an arc of spots with the larger one leading. AR13156 across the CLM in the NW quadrant is a single spot. The clouds got me at this point preventing further study of the disc. I noticed no granulation. The sky is 90 percent overcast and the temperature is 62F ( 16.6C )

About 30 minutes later after taking the telescope in I got another very brief view in using the Lunt 8x32 SUNoculars. I managed adding the spot of AR13160 to today's count of active regions. It's barely visible as a small spot in the NE quadrant.

That's a total of four active regions today. Rain began about an hour after the last session and it's still raining now.

James

The Sun certainly sounds magnificent to view at the moment :hamster:

We have sunshine but I am at work (well, it is dark at the moment but it should be sunny later) but I bet it won't last till the weekend. It was -6 degrees this morning :)

Thanks and welcomes everyone. Some of you are really cold. It's 50F ( 10C ) here in Edneyville at the moment and foggy. Clouds prevail.

Mark,
Like yesterday, today does not look good. So far the sky is uniformly overcast. I am heading out shortly to see my sister in nearby Asheville. I will take the little Lunt 8x32s with me.

Good luck on your solar exploits today. Hopefully you will have a chance.
